Pearls & Cachous

WHAT ARE SUGAR PEARLS?

Sugar Pearls are hard candy pearls that are used in varying methods to decorate cakes, cookies and cupcakes and are generally around 4mm in diameter. They are hard and care needs to be taken when eating them when they are still hard. They will soften depending on what surface they are attached to (buttercream vs fondant). Sugar pearls are easily attached to fondant. Either wet the spot where it to be stuck, or use some edible glue. sticky surface to stick to. They can also be attached to icing, buttercream, ice cream or royal icing.

We also stock traditional pearls also known as cachous. We stock 4mm and 6mm varieties. The cachous we stock are high quality and are imported from both Italy and Germany.

WHAT CAN I USE CACHOUS FOR?

Cachous and sugar pearls can add some colour to cupcake toppers, or even on cakes. One popular method is to use either a diamond side design patchwork cutter, or the mini quilter or quilter embosser to create the design in the fondant on the side of the cake. This is popular on wedding cakes.
