What To Do With Left Over Cake Scraps

Whether you're a hobby baker or a professional baker, there is going to be times when you have left over cake scraps from trimming back your cake creations. Sometimes you just want to indulge yourself and eat it however, cake can get a little boring if your baking every single day and eating the same old thing!

 

Don't get us wrong, we LOVE cake, but sometimes it can be fun to spice things up and create other incredible treats with your left overs. We have found a couple of fun ways to incorporate your cake scrappies into something different, fun and delicious!

 


Make a Cake Scrappie Jar or Tub

A lot of cake decorators will use the remaining cake off cuts to create a delicious scrappie jar/tub. You can create this using a jar or container and simply add in your cake scraps, left over buttercream icing and even some cheeky sprinkles or fruit to add extra flavour and textures. 

 

The beautiful Steph at Little Sprinkle Co has done just that creating her very own delicious Cake Snack Packs! Steph is known for her creative launches that see hundred of people attend to collect these delicious cake snob snack packs, while she pulls all nighters to get it done! Check out her mammoth efforts below!

 

 

Create Some Cake Pops & Cakesicles

Why not create some gorgeous cake pops or cakesicles to with your left over cake scrappies. These are super fun to make and can literally be for any occasion or theme. Simply mix your left over cake scraps with some buttercream, roll into balls or use a cakesicle mould and pop them in the fridge to set. Once set, you can dip these into chocolate, cover in fondant, add lustre dust, sprinkles, edible images... literally anything!

Why Not Make Another Cake?

Its whats on the inside that counts and if that means delicious cake that decorated beautifully, then no one will even know it was made out of cake scraps! You can mould your cake scrappies to be just about any shape, perfect for creating a whole new cake design.

No Bake Chocolate Crumb Cake

We have a delicious recipe for a no bake chocolate cake! This yummy recipe will use left over cake and ganache if you have it!

 

Ingredients:

  • 350 grams of Chocolate
  • 125 grams of butter or 475g of ganache instead!
  • 2 tablespoons of golden syrup
  • 450 grams of cake crumbs
  • 225 grams of digestive biscuits, crushed
  • 50 grams of glace cherries, halved or a nut of your choice
  • 4 tablespoons of brandy or liqueur of choice

 

Method:

  1. Put the chocolate, butter and golden syrup into a heat proof bowel over a pan of simmering water. Stirring occasionally until the mixture is melted together. 
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the other ingredients.
  3. Transfer into a container and chill until set. 
  4. Serve and share with friends and family!

 

Ice Cream mix ins

Why not can cut some cake scraps up into smaller pieces and mix through your ice cream with some extra chocolate chips and sprinkles. You could even create or buy an ice cream cake and add all your cake scraps to the top for topping - Yum!

 

Thick Shakes or should we say Cake Shakes!

Did someone say cake flavoured thick shakes! If you have left over cake, place this in the blender with milk, syrups and ice cream to create an amazing, mouth watering thick shake. Depending on the cake flavour you have left over, you can make these any kind of flavour, birthday cake, chocolate, cookies and cream, lemon cheesecake - there is sooo many flavours to choose from!

 

Cake Sandwiches!

Yes, you read that right! Cake sandwiches! The incredible Molly Makes Cakes has created delicious Cake Sandwiches that use cake scraps and left over buttercream, in our opinion it's genius! Depending on the flavour of cake you have left over, you can name and flavour this to match. Add sprinkles, crisp pearls, chocolate, ganache or a caramel sauce - what ever you have left over you can use to create yummy sandwiches.
