Top 5 Cake Trends You’ll Be Seeing In 2019

09 Jan 2019

We’ve dived deep into the hashtags to determine what we believe will be the biggest cake decorating trends in 2019. While 2018 was filled with glammed up looks of marble fondant, dazzling geode designs and metallic drips we think 2019 will see more of your clients asking for carefree, whimsical designs.

Here are our top five cake trend predictions for 2019!

1. Calligraphy

Starting with our favourite trend we’re seeing at the moment, hand painted calligraphy brings a beautiful personal touch to a cake design. Whether it be a special poem, significant date, or just the birthday girl’s name, adding handwritten wording to your cake really brings it to the next level.

If your cursive writing looks more like a preschoolers scribble than elegant calligraphy don’t fret, SweetStamp’s letter and number stamps will make incorporating cursive messages into your cake design a breeze. Simply press into fondant or buttercream, then paint in the impression with any of our edible paints.

2. Wrap Around Patterns

This trend can look really striking, especially when used on an all white tiered cake.

Some cakers are able to paint these intricate designs by hand but for us mere mortals there are printed edible images. Simply find a pattern you love then have it printed in the exact size you need to wrap around the sides of your cake.

3. Painter's Palette

We’ve seen this trend before with those colourful strokes of tempered chocolate but 2019 will see these more of these vibrant, playful strokes made out of buttercream. Think messy but beautiful painter's palette.

4. Black Cakes

Glam cakes will still be popular but with a dark and moody twist. While an all black cake might make your great aunt swoon these designs can look super elegant and feminine, and personally we're loving them!

5. Cake Sails

Sails really became a thing in 2018 and we're expecting them to be more popular than ever this year. Whether made with tempered chocolate, isomalt or even wafer paper, a sail topper can make even the most simple cake look ultra modern and on-trend.
