What To Do With Leftover Fondant

19 Aug 2022

Wondering what to do with all that leftover fondant? Need some inspo on what you can make and create? Well, you don't have to throw them out anymore - we have compiled a list of ideas to help you repurpose your leftover fondant and turn it into something incredible!

So, you’ve done it again. You made more fondant than was necessary and now you’re trying to figure out what to do with the leftovers. Waste not, want not...until you’re left scratching your head with a heap of leftover fondant sitting on your countertop. Well, we’ve gone out, done the research, and compiled a list of different ideas on what to do with it all!

CREATE YOUR OWN DIY SPRINKLES

Yes, you can make your own sprinkles. Crazy, right!? I didn’t even know that was a thing until I went looking. The process is simple and easy to do but it does take time. However, if you have kids, why not get them involved and turn it into an activity where they can pick and choose which shapes they would like to create using the various tips shown in the video below. And tada, you can make your very own DIY sprinkle mix using fondant.

MAKE MOULDS FOR CAKE DECORATING

You can make disposable moulds out of fondant and Tylose! Tylose is a bonding agent where you can create gum paste when you add it to fondant. Gather up your leftover fondant and mix the two ingredients together until combined. Press in your desired objects or shapes to make an indent within the mould before leaving it to dry overnight. And voila, you have your very own mould! It is perfect for one-off endeavours or an alternative option when you don’t have the mould you need. It is quick, simple, and easy to do.

CREATE A MARBLED EFFECT

It is time to get creative! If you have a mixture of different coloured fondants, why not create a marbled effect for your next cake or cookie creation? Choose a colour scheme, pull and stretch your fondants, and roll out until you achieve your desired result. We love the marbled effect and colour scheme that The Fantasy Bakery have decided to go with in this short YouTube reel.

COVER YOUR CAKE POPS

Cake pops are a great way to use leftover cake scraps and with the additional fondant, you can decorate them however you like! Get creative with it and use your imagination. We've included a couple of examples of what you can do:

These look just like the horse stick toys that you can buy!

USE AS A FILLING BETWEEN COOKIES

A clever little cookie known as ‘ sweetleafsusie ’ came up with the genius idea of sandwiching leftover fondant between two sugar cookies. Not only did they turn out awesome, but they went down a treat too! And it doesn’t require much effort from your usual cooking making routine.

Why not step up your leftover fondant game and add some flavouring (if you haven’t already). We recommend our Lorann Oil Flavour range which is kosher, gluten and sugar free (except for Canadian Maple & Horchata). We have a variety of flavours available such as Banana Cream, Cinnamon Roll, and Chocolate Hazelnut.

Another idea would be to add colour and flavour in one go, a two-in-one if you will. That’s where Roberts Confectionery Flavoured Food Colouring comes in. We recommend trying the Butterscotch, Caramel, or Peppermint for chocolate or vanilla cookies.

Run out of fondant and need more? We have a beautiful selection readily available:
Vizyon , Bakels , Fondtastic , Over The Top , and Satin Ice (great for when a larger amount is needed).

So, there you have it, a handful of ideas to inspire you and help you use up all that leftover fondant you have stored away. You can make, shape, and mould your way through new creations with a little innovation.
